This should probably be obvious, but I want to be sure. Which of the multiple holes in the firewall does the transmission shift cable pass through?
Not sure! Without getting under the car, I’ve got three cables coming out of the firewall - emergency brake, shifter cable, and speedometer cable. I’ll ask some folks to comment which is which - A,B and C. Stay tuned…
Who is punkrocket?
A- looks like a vacuum line with an electrical wire next to it.
C- Looks like speedometer cable.
B- Lookes to be shift cable.
Dick Koch.
When l installed a used shift cable recently l poked around from under the dash and the cable found a empty hole and went right in.!!!
I say B and keep cable away from the exhaust system.
So option B has the shift cable going through the same bulkhead seal that the wiring harness goes through, correct?
Keep cable as straight as possible exiting the bulkhead. Be careful bending resreard not to trap cable between frame and steering box.. this happened to me. Do not allow cable to touch exhaust system. Cable will leak fluid and smoke will follow.
