On the weekend i went to install the dash plate and original radio i got on ebay awhile back,all was going well till i went to install the speaker,the one i had that i was going to use was a 6x9 which i found was too big,so my question is,what size of speaker do i need to fit in the original front speaker location??

I’ll go measure one and let you know.. There is a place that re-cones them, if you dont have the original unit..
It’s a 5x7, Bob. ForwardLook Frank, who used to be a prolific contributor to this List, gave me the address of a company that re-cones these speakers for a reasonable price…the impedance matches original etc. But honestly, the original radio and speaker pale in comparison to what is available today..I understand trying to stay original, but my suggestion is try to modernize wherever it won’t show.

Thanks Roger,i measured myself and figured it to be a 5x7.and then I took a trip to the local Wal Mart and Bingo,i was in business!
I understand your point about using modern day sound equipment, but i like the way the original looks and works,and actually i listen mostly to oldies AM stations anyway!

Well, I wish I knew that WalMart had 'em, as Bob found out. Still, for maximum power delivery to the speaker, it’s best to match impedence. Here’s a note from FLF, as Roger mentioned:

Ask for a 3.2 ohm voice coil as this is what they originally had.
