Selling a 1959 Plymouth 50 years ago

Hi all,

Recently I bought a complete set of Ross Roy film strips and records with a projector/record player. I tried digitizing a film strip and the result isn’t bad, it is not a complete movie but it gives you an idea what is coming soon :sunglasses: Personally I love the movie and the comments.

This is part of strip/record #4 about the accessories of the 1959 Plymouth and the salesman is talking to a guy that just flew in from Mars with his spaceship

Enjoy,
Ron

Very good, thanks Ron.
I have some Ross Roy stuff as well, corny but definitely fun to watch!

Bob

Hey Ron,
I loved that filmstrip. Boy, that really takes me back to my school days…the “plink” sound to prompt one to advance the film…
Was there any credit given to the voice-over actors? The Martian character’s voice is very familiar…

Ron. thanks for doing the copy that so we can all enjoy these filmstrips.

Roger, I am with you on the Martian voice. I beleive it is a well know character actor from the 50’s and 60’s with that Wise guy “New Yawk” voice. I will have to look at some old 50’s and 60’s films to see I can get a name. I remember him in some old WWII movies made in that era. Guess I will have to spend some research time on You Tube…

The main speaker sounds like the guy who use to do the Educational Films we all saw in K-12 School. Or at least it is close to that type of voice…

John Q.

Sorry, there are no credits given on the records. And it must be a famous guy as he sounds familiar to me too, and I was born in the sixties. Of course at that time we were 10 years behind with everything

I will try to improve the quality of the film and the sound next Sunday and post the whole film on YouTube. And maybe even a second movie, it is time consuming but I really enjoy it and I am glad you guys like it too. Maybe I will make a DVD with all six movies and bring a copie with me to Carlisle for all 59 owners. I also have two older Plymouth movies (57 and one from the early 50’s) without the records and two 59 Desoto movies and records.

Ron

Thanks Ron I loved the strip on you tube. Time consuming for you but well worth it for us.

I felt I knew the voice as well.

Was it Buddy Hackett?

Let the guessing games begin!

Curt

It’s not Buddy, and it’s not Jerry Lewis. There was a guy who did that “Joisey” (new Jersey) accent..I will ask around.

The voice of the Martian was done by the late Arnold Stang. Sorry I called it a joisey accent…its an over-the-top Brooklyn accent!

Thanks Roger! I loved Top Cat as a kid! I thought he was also in the MMMW, but all the clips I went thru last night didnot show him or his voice. Good Research!

My father has a Washington Heights accent (Manhattan) , thou not squeaky at all, so I also thought he was from one of the Boroughs of NYC not Jersery.

John Q.

John, guess what he was in MMMW according to Wikipedia Arnold Stang - Wikipedia

Thanks for the research! I’ll make sure there will be more to listen to next Sunday.

Ron

Hey Ron! I remember those 59 Plymouth Taxi cabs in that Film too!

Arnold had a great voice that did him well all these years!

John Q.

hi John,

You know that we have a part of the movie on the 59 Plymouth website don’t you?

https://59plymouth.net/ephemera/video/Movies/slides/MadWorld.html

Ron

Ron, I thought I had seen it during my browsing of the 59 site, thanks for remainding me that I need to go no further then our site on all things 59 Plymouths!

Thanks for the link again!

John Q.

The first complete video is on line http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSA7Hm3_jds

That one is about the exterior styling of the 1959 Plymouth. We are working on the 2nd movie too and hope to get that on line later tonight.

Enjoy,
Ron

When I checked if the movie was already visible on Youtube I found a movie of Greeny owned by Dick Koch http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7x14z3hbB7o&feature=rec-fresh+div-r-2-HM

Ron

“Open the door, and the seat automatically swivels out.” Wow! I didn’t know about that option. Not in my sales book…

Dan

Hi Ron - Surprise, Surprise, I didn’t know Greenie mady You Tube. I saw a guy filming the car but didn’t know it would end up on You Tube. That Car Show is the “lake Mirror Concours De’elegance” in Lakeland, Fl. its about 3 hrs. drive from my house. You can Google thier site. As far as I’m concerned it’s the finest car show in Florida. The Concours cars are lined up around beautiful lake Mirror in downtown Lakeland. They block off a 18 Square Block area downtown for “us Guys” with a limit of 500 cars. There is a Aniversary area for 50 year old cars but they only allow one of each make. Frank Lamps beautiful white 59 was displayed there. The are no trophy for “Us Guys” we get ribbons. The sponsors of the show each get and allotment of ribbons and they place them on cars they “like”.
Dick.

Dan - I think Chrysler, Dodge and Desoto had a cable system that automatically swiveled the seats when you opened the door but Plymouth did not have that option.
Dick.

The complete version (with Arnold Stang as a Martian) of “accessories for the 59 Plymouth” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0CKPL9LKQ-0

1959 chassis body sales features, this movie is in 2 parts as it is over 10 minutes and Youtube doesn’t allow clips that exceed 10 minutes. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJh9M7NJG6U and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nF9ByMU3fo

Engines and transmissions for the 59 Plymouth http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoZxPq4CsM8

As a bonus I digitized a film without sound of the service tips on 57 cars (master technician booklet #109) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZCs2iahp-GI and a a filmstrip of the 1950 Plymouth suburban http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cxUr7i2_Yew

These are all the Plymouth filmstrips I have but I do have two 59 DeSoto strips and records as well, hopefully they will be on line next weekend.

I hope you enjoy watching the movies as much as I did.

Ron
