More Savoy (or any '59) parts needed

hey everybody check out my savoy at this site or at forwardlook-the front fenders don’t look like that any more. They are really getting bad. Tried to slow rust down with rust-oleum but it is like outbreak- it won’t stop. Does anybody make repro 59 front fender sections? I don’t think but thought i’d ask anyway. Also my clutch linkage broke, and no one knows what i’m talking about when i ask for the part. SOMEBODY HELP!!

Mike, what rusted out – the “eyebrows”? These guys have 'em in stock:

I also see them from time to time on eBay, I’ll keep a lookout.

Also, can you identify the clutch linkage part? There are several folks around with “New Old Stock”. If you can’t describe it, perhaps I’ll scan a pic tonight and you can tell me from that. e.g., http://www.vvap.com allows you to plug in a partno, and see if they have inventory. I also have some lists of parts I’ve accumulated over the years…

Let’s see if we can’t help you out.

Dan

went to their site- would the eyebrows be “top of headlight panel”? or would i have to call… the best i can do with the linkage part is this: it is a cylinder with a “pin” on one end (seems to be pressed into the bell housing and on my car is broken off), and the other end tapers off, then attached is a ball with two metal halves forming a bearing. A ball joint, i would guess. This is because the shaft this part slides into is semi-rotating, but not mounted level. I greatly appreciate the help.

Mike – “top of headlight panel” would have to be it, they’re notorious for rusting out. Best to call, tho.

I’ll scan a pic of the clutch from my parts manual tonight, we can narrow down what you’re looking for.

Dan

Mike, here’s an explosion diagram of the clutch. Can you identify from this diagram the part you need?

Dan

sorry, computer died. is that a '59 manual?? it looks more like my buddys '54 setup (my clutch pedal “hangs” from under the dash instead of sticking out of the floorboards). I don’t see what i need on there… were the linkages the same if that’s and older drawing? If i had to make an educated guess i’d say my part would go in place of bracket (6-53-5) and bearing (6-52-11). Mike

whoops, helps if you log on

Oops, quite right. The pic I originally posted was for a truck! Sorry 'bout that. I’ve fixed the post with the correct picture.

Dan

lol it’s ok. the part i need is “stud” 6-52-10.
Mike

OK – those are catalog numbers that are listed. When I get home tonight, I’ll look up the part number – then there are places we can check for the part.

BTW, this looks the same as the part on my old '55 with standard trans. I still have that parts book, I’ll compare the numbers. The guy I sold the car to may still have that part – I’ll ask.

BTW2 – when I redid my clutch, I replaced those bushings on both ends with Teflon ones. You can get them from Andy Bernbaum.

Dan

OK, here’s what I know: The part is definitely a new part for '59. It does not cross check with the '55 part I could get my hands on.

Furthermore, there are two parts. Here’s how it’s listed in the book for Plymouths:

(The funny symbol in front of the “1829” denotes that the part has not appeared in any previous parts book.)

Now, Mike has a 318 – but I don’t know if it is a V-800 (or, even if it was available in the Savoy) – the special power pack for the 318. Is that considered high performance? Or, is only the Golden Commando high performance?

I don’t know. But, the answer to that question will determine which part Mike needs, and then we can figure out where to get it. I’m going to send a note to Ed Eckerson, he will undoubtably know.

Dan

i would not consider the v-800 (2 bbl) to be high performance, and i doubt anyone else would either, the reason being i’m not that lucky or rich!! however, i did install a 4-bbl intake and carb so maybe the torque is too much and snapped it?? i doubt that either, but something to consider… the car still has single exhaust.
Mike

Mike, were their ears buzzing at showcars? The headlight eyebrows are up on eBay!

Also, the left inner panel:

Still poking around, for clutch part 1829 377…

Dan

Sorry, Mike. I keep coming up empty with my parts sources. It might be time to try some salvage yards…

If you want, I can put you in contact with the guy with my old '55. The part number is different, but perhaps you can adapt it? I dunno.

Sorry I couldn’t be of more help. If I come across the owner of a '59 salvage car, I’ll ask.

Dan

well, i know a guy who has a 59 parts car, but the odds that it is 3 spd on tree are pretty lousy. I will check… are the teflon bushings replacing the part i need? How can i get hold of Andy Bernbaum? Why why why did they have to put those eyebrows on ebay??? i’m not ready to buy yet!! hopefully they have more-as soon as i get done building my new computer i will be ready to order. Thanks again for your help! Mike

The teflon bushings are part 6-52-11 in the diagram. They weren’t teflon originally, of course, and surely are worn out.

Here’s a previous post about Andy:

You can find info on other vendors in that same category. Good luck…

Dan

oh no, that 2-piece bearing is fine. Well, i’ll keep you posted. Thanks again- Mike

PS i forgot to mention i need a cigarette lighter, too!! have looked on ebay all this year, searched at carlisle; i have the worst luck ever.

dan, have u tried the guy in NE WA state for parts?(his business name eludes me at the moment) Also Murray Park in Ohio..

Wow,$260 “buy it now” for a pair of front fender caps. A few years ago I picked up a pair for $50. A guy had a pair on ebay. I was high bidder at $38 - reserve not met - he emailed me after auction saying I could have them for $50. He lived up near Duluth, Minnesota. I drove about 200 miles up there and picked them up. I used them on my other '59 - a 4 door Fury. So hang in there, a deal like that may come along for you.

well, i sure hope you’re right!! seems like i oughtta get whole fenders for that much, but i guess they are hard to come by, and lots are needed. Any one who knows of any nice ones for sale please let me know!!
