Looking for 59 Sport Fury coupe or convertible

Hi,

I’m new to the group and love the styling on the 59 Plymouths. I’m looking for a 59 Sport Fury coupe or convertible if anyone knows of a solid car for sale. I would prefer a finished car, but mainly am looking for a really clean body and would do a restoration on the right car. I expect to do mechanical work on any car I buy since I like to drive my vehicles.

I’d could use some guidance on the upper end that is reasonable for these cars. The Nada values show $20-40k for convertibles and obviously lower for coupes. Does this seem low?

Thanks, Sam Cohen (510-663-9928)

Hi, Sam, glad to have you join up with us. There is a few SF’s that have been sale lately but none that I can see on Ebay right now. If I see one, I or others will post it to "What is for sale on Ebay"Thread or it might be posted, if by a Forum Member in the ‘For Sale’ part of the Forum.

Convertible Sport Fury Converts are rare but they do sometimes come up for sale. The even rarer Belvedere Convertibles the same. (LOL, short story on that comment).

Depending on what condition the Convert or HT is in, will fluctuate the price a bunch. Recent SF Hard Tops have been between 10 and 18 on Ebay. Some converts have been offered at $40K+ but did not sell, These were #1 condition converts.

We have some long time Forum members who are better versed on current price levels of HT and Convert so I will let them add some comment here.

I see you are in the California Bay area and a 59 plymouth Forum member John Fowlie is just north of you in Williams, CA. He himself is restoring a basket case 59 SF Convertible for his own use. John’s web site is: http://www.bigmauto.com

Good Luck in your search.

Greetings Sam! And welcome to the Forum.

John - I think we must name you the Official 59Plymouth.net Ambassador. You always are quick to greet new members! Thanks for that.

Shucks… Just trying to be nice and all, don’t want to scare them away with silence from us.

Wait till he has to get the 59 Plymouth Forum tatoo, then we will see how he likes us!!! :stuck_out_tongue: Once you get 5 postings a secret 59 Plymouth Stryker branding team will be sent out to do the branding! Mine still hurts since 1959 was spelled out with letters instead of numbers…ouch!

Hi John,

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been itching to go up to the junkyard in Williams. Seems like he’s got a lot of 50s Mopars. If you don’t mind, send me your phone # or call me at 510-663-9928. I’d be interested in getting your thoughts on a car I found for sale.

Hi Sam,
Congratulations on your excellent taste in classic cars!
As you may have seen, these cars, in #1 condition, are rarely seen for sale.
This fact throws the Nada numbers out of whack.
If you do find one, the price most often is sky-high, such as the SF convertible recently being offered in Florida. One Belvedere convertible sold at Barrett-Jackson in the last year or two…I think the price was 60K.
In the current economy, selling prices (other than at Barrett-Jackson) are way down.
I reluctantly sold my convertible in October, for a little more than half of what I would have expected prior to this recession.
It is a buyer’s market out there, so keep your eyes open and put your feelers out!

(Psst…some salvage yard owners feel insulted when their stuff gets called ‘junk’ )
