little by little

All was going well
Finished a coil then realized the wire had sliced thru the plastic
Tried the second one and same thing
Getting new ones made with a thicker wall
See how we go

Coil complete and installed
All working well
Ended up getting the coil wound professionally as my homemade version just wasn’t producing enough current
Details on the card for future reference
Cheers

If at first you don’t succeed! You are an inspiration to us all, Vic. Job well done!

Nice job!!!

That is super!!!

Are you going to make them avalaible and sell them? I might need one but I need to check the wiring and some other stuff first. Have so many projects on the car but I want to finish some other stuff first

Cheers guys
I’m happy to assist anyone who needs one

The 3D printing cost me $40 for the first prototype and then $10 for 2
The winding cost me $100 ( reckon I can get this down to about $50 as they now have the specs)

Sing out if anyone needs one made

Also had word back today that radio and record player should be good to go - really happy about this

Currently looking at 50’s tissue box holder as I’d like to put my aftermarket radio head unit in it

Will keep you posted on outcome

Cheers

Vic

Update
Radio working but no luck as yet with the record player
Back in the shop it goes again
Meanwhile been playing with the speakers for the aftermarket unit
Decided to hide the front speakers behind the record player
Made a frame to hold them and brackets to support both back of record player and speakers
Also made a tweeter holder as well
As you can see trying to hide as best I can so as to not detract too much from the originality of the dash
Will paint the holders either black or brown so as to try and blend in

Looking for some help please

Wondering how much space there is in the trunk when the top is folded into the well

I am thinking of making a parcel shelf using the frame from a 4 door hard top

Just need to now how far down I’ll need to set it

Plan to mount my speakers and amps below it and then finish it off almost like a hard top

Some pics to show what I mean

Also found a light for the trunk that was mounted in the correct position

Light in its original position

Hi Vic - excellent idea. I ordered my top well and boot from Gary Goers and they both fit perfectly. The well hangs down with only an inch or two from the floor. You will have to mount the shelf much lower than your pictures indicate. I will lower the top on my car and let you know how much clearance there is. Give me an hour or two.
Dick

OK Vic - My trunk floor is carpeted and the top well just touches the carpet. With the top down l measured 5-1/4" between the carpet and what l felt to be the top lowered into the well. I’ve included a picture of the top well in the trunk and another of a junk box l always carry with no problems. You may want to consider mounting the speakers in the beauty boards on each side below the fins.
Dick

Thanks Dick

That’s greatly appreciated

I’ll see how this now works with the parcel shelf

I’ve thought about the side panels and that’s where I may need to mount the subwoofer

I’ll keep you updated

Cheers

I managed to trim down the parcel shelf and have it sitting at 4inch above the well floor

Now just need to work out how to finish it off cosmetically

Thanks for the input

Nice job, that should do it. I don’t know if you have considered or made poivisions for a drain in the top well or not but l do not have one in my car and so far haven’t had more than 3 or 4 ounces of water, it’s easily taken care of with a towel.
Dick.

Thanks Dick

Ive seen discussions on this topic but i must say im not sure exactly where it goes

I assumed that the drip channel that runs along the bottom of the rear body frame to which the soft top connects onto (i.e. base of window) is there to collect the water which then runs to the sides of the car and down the front of the wheel arch - hence why its a typical rust spot

I tend to agree if water does get it ill soak it up - it will only happen perhaps when washing the car or getting caught in a shower

Cheers

Vic - Try this on. Four small angle brackets rivited to the underside of the shelf and once painted will have a clean look, then stainless steel machine screws thru the wheel well. That way it can be removed if necessary.

Yes, any water that gets under the boot button strip runs in that channel and down the front of the wheel well to drain slots below the rear window and then to the rockers. Make sure those slots/holes are clear.
Dick

they say great minds think alike

Thats exactly what i was thinking in relation to fixing it in place

I reckon i will still use the boot well liner to make sure no water gets onto the speakers/amps, i will then close off from the trunk side with grey boarding to match the inner linings of the trunk panels

Sounds like a plan.

Received my tissue box holder this week

Have played around and turned it into a holder for my new car radio

I’ve now got to cut screws and paint it black on the inside

Got my record player back today

Would you believe I couldn’t find a #44 lamp here in SA so had to order from the USA

Without it the record player wouldn’t work as it basically acts as a fuse
Hope this video works

(Vic - I took the liberty of converting to an mp4 so it would play inline. -Dan)

Only have one record at present will need to widen the collection

Final set up complete
