Can anyone give me a quick lesson on how to install a new ignition key cylinder in my 59 Sport Fury. What should I watch out for? Everything I try to do on my car usually turns into a night mare.
You havent provided quite enough information for ME to advise you…maybe someone else understands your needs…are you simply replacing the ignition switch, or are you attempting to install an new key core into the ignition switch?

I will look for a spare ignition switch, to see if I can offer suggestions. Of course a locksmith can take care of that for you in no time.

Most ignition cylinders need a key inserted, and turned to the accessory position, and there is a tiny button that needs to be depressed with a paperclip or similar, in order to release the lock cylinder. If you cannot get the key to turn the cylinder, or the key is missing, a locksmith will charge only a small fee to remove it if you bring the ignition switch assembly to them.

I looked, but I don’t have a 1959 Ply ignition switch hanging around. I did find what I think is a 1961 Plymouth ignition switch, and while I don’t have a key for it, I noticed that when I unscrewed the finish bezel, it revealed a very small access hole, with a likely looking “button” to push. I’d be interested to know if you were able to release the key cylinder with the tips sent in..
