Getting a start on the convertible project

This weekend, I actually took some time to get the rusty convertible out, and set the solid hardtop body on it’s chassis. Here are some pics- Front half of the convertible

John,
How did you make out with FM on the Black rag top I posted the picture of on forwardlook.net a few weeks back?

Big M, I thought I had it tough when I began my project..your stuff looks horrible…but I senze you know whta you are doing..
BWINC, where is your post you speak of?

I have no idea what the topic was, (I have problems remembering what I ate for supper 2 hours after I eat it).
but I will attach a picture of the beast

Brad, I sent him several e-mails regarding that car, but never got a response. Maybe it has been sold already.

Beginning to look like I will be making the header bow, unless something turns up. —John

i thought i had it bad, wow! :open_mouth: ur gonna be spending some late nights in the barn. what ever happened to ur 59 fury project? --j

Jeremy, the '59 Fury is being mated to what is left of the convertible. —John

John,

Are you planning a trip to South Dakota to pick up the Belvedere convertible listed on e-bay for parts? E-bay# 190159065541

It sure appears to have some parts you are looking for - even top bows!

Are you currently bidding on this item already?

Good Luck winning if you are actually bidding.

Curt in MD

Curt,
I am impressd that you are watching the auctions so closely! As for the Belvie cvt, I emailed the seller asking for more “top” photos, the assembly is not really visible in the photos..The nicer wogon looks good, I E-mailed the seller to inform him that is NOT Factory A/C

Roger - I have seen that particular under dash AC in 59’s before and on ebay, I think those were dealer installed.
Dick.

Yes, I have been watching that auction, although the price is already over 2000.00. With the additional cost of transport, probably another 100.00, it is already reaching the top I would pay for it. We’ll see how spirited the bidding becomes.

Here are a couple more ‘in progress’ pics of my project. Removing the hardtop, and installing the convertible windshield frame. —John

Windshield frame installed, just needing to finish the seam with lead, which will be done during the bodywork phase. Sorry for the crappy pictures, it is a bit dark in the barn. —John

Glad you agree! Sometimes I am right about things..

That prior remark was a reply to Dick regarding aftermarket a/c..

John, I admire your energy level and metalworking abilities!
I dont know if it was my bodyman’s fault or what, but I have always had an alignment problem where the drivers vent frame meets the “A” pillar.
My bodyman had a different approach to the windshield..I dont think he swapped out the entire “surround”, but I have photos of him trying to adjust the “tilt” of it. My advice is of little value, but perhaps you can dryfit the doors and vent frames to see how the line up.
As for the cvt in SD, he says it is complete, says nothing about rust, says the top bows are bent (obvious in photos) and that a tab (?) is broken off over the driver’s window.

cvt bid gone over 2500..
