Flathead Six paint color

This question came to me from a member of the Plymouth Owners Club. He has a '59 Savoy, and the engine and transmission are out for rebuilding. He wants to know the original color of the engine. I’m guessing silver, but thought I’d ask here. What about the valve covers?

Kidding! What about the air cleaner, though? Other components?

Thanks
Dan

Dan - The entire engine is Silver including the valve covers. The hood springs and air cleaner are red.

I’m sorry, my post above referred to a 318 8 cyl. Engine not a flathead six. Dans guesting about
The valve covers thru me off. I have no idea of the colors of a flathead six. Maybe the showcase would show the factory color.
Dick

I looked in the Showcase and every example I found the flathead six is painted silver.

Good question about the Plymouth L Head engine or Flat Head Six engine paint color.
From what I read, the final year these engines were installed in Plymouths was 1959.

I looked through all my saved vintage car photos and found these four photos of the Flat Head Six.
I do not know if these are original engines, have been replaced or have been repainted.

I am not sure if these paint colors are original or not … in the photo the 1957 color looks red and the later 1959 year look silver green to me.

Hopefully someone knows the original factory color.

When i got my 59 Plymouth way back in 2004, the flathead six in it had been painted black, but from what i could find out, it was originally silver.
