Looks still very good. Needs a new trunk toilet seat kit and some small chrome parts. Also notice it has the bumper wings.
Interior looks original and needs to be redone. Need new paint for sure. This is a car that needs to be restored 100% and it really can be saved

Matthew, you should seriously think about it! A convertible for that price is hard to find. I also know where you can get a credit without interests and maybe not refundable.

Nice idea Stefan, but unfortunately Matthew is the youngest son. His older brother had the same plan and now he is driving around town with a 1958 Oldsmobile. My money tree isn’t growing very fast so Matthew has to settle for a Trabbi

I assume you guys are joking about the convertible being for sale. “Marc” hasnt replied to me, but he replied to John Bartell, saying he would sell the HT and the cvt together for $15K! Apparently there are no pictures, not even a description of the convertible’s condition.

We are talking about Jeff’s convertible! For Marc’s HT even the shipping to Europe would be too expensive. But Jeff’s car isn’t too bad, it needs some work to get a nice car. If it would be for sale in my country I really would consider buying it for that price.

You are right Dan, it is an amazing little car! My uncle drove one in the late sixties and I loved beiing in the passenger’s seat. He had the deluxe version with the “power pack”. Top speed was almost 50 mph and it had 26 bhp! And it made the sound as my grandmother’s coffee maker.

Other interesting things to know about this car: (all true)
- after purchasing you had to wait 15 to 18 Years for the car to be delivered
- paint on the body was an option
- steering wheel was not included and but was an option (don’t ask me why)
- price was as much as an middle class car in the west
- a used Trabi with 10 or more years was more expensive than a new one
- engine is a 2 stroker
- gas tank is over the engine (kind of zippo on wheels)
Besides, I never had the pleasure to drive that car - couldn’t get in it.

well, I am mostly curious about what’s out there, and at what price.
Sure, I think it would be fun to have another, but in reality my life is too hectic to fully enjoy the one I have. Also, my car needs work (balljoints).
It also needs a drivers side vent window frame, unique to convertible, so I am always on the outlook for parts cars. I know of at least one guy who is shopping for a reasonably priced convertible, and I’d like to help him find one.

No not yet. I’m still waiting for a new coil to come. It’s on the way and should arrive any day. Besides, we have a very cold winter this year and I can’t work more than 5 minutes outside, not even in my Garage.
