I need some advise on some alignment issues. Firstly… the rear driver side corner of my hood is about 1/4" lower than the fender, the front of the hood is fine. Can I just simply place a shim between the hood and hinge or do i need to a loosen the studs in the firewall and adjust the hinge placement? Secondly… Both rear doors line up with the rear fenders fine but flare out on the bottom about 1/4", I have no idea how to fix this, also the back of the front drivers side door sticks out on top about a 1/4" from the top of the back drivers side door. I also have no idea how to fix that. All the spacing between the hood , doors , trunk lid, etc. are consistent. Can any one advise?
The large 57/58 service manual has all the body alignment procedures starting on page 405. There should also be a technical booklet on the site with more information.
Good luck,
Dick
Here’s the body section of the manual Dick is talking about:
I’m sure there is a technical booklet that focuses on alignment procedures, but unfortunately it doesn’t look like we have that one… But, give the service manual a try.
Dan
There is a technical booklet on door alignment for the 57 but not for the 59. There isn’t a lot of difference so it might work http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/110/index.htm
And for the people who get bored on a rainy day here is the link to all the Master Service Technician Service booklets http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/index.htm
