Chryslers at Carlisle 2022

Martha, my '54 Plymouth Plaza Suburban, sits in the driveway to my garage where Faulkner is kept. I had Martha’s radiator recored, and stripped much of the engine compartment for some modest efforts at detailing; but Martha was inoperable as a result. Would I finish in time, in order to move her out of the way to let Faulkner out, so we could get to Carlisle?

Yes! The day before Matthew Keij’s arrival, as it turns out - and I was able to do some quick detailing on Faulkner along with a shakeout cruise.

Lookin’ good, Faulkner

With Matthew’s arrival, work began in earnest on the installation of the SMS door panels I had recently received - along with a pair of ash trays I had acquired from eBay.

Matthew left for Carlisle on Wednesday, and I went solo on Saturday, the first time ever in Faulkner. I needn’t have worried - he ran like a champ the whole way.

Open the gate and lemme out…

Backing out of the drive. Look at that upholstery!

Faulkner has arrived at the Chrysler Nationals, 2022.

The only other '59 Plymouths at the show were those belonging to Earl Hess - the crowd-pleasing custom Sport Fury, and the gorgeous Sport Fury convertible.

Gordon graciously moved his '60 Dodge, so we could get the three Sport Furys together.

Yeah, an oddity.

Almost forgot. This one’s personal; the old man had a '56 Dodge Suburban, although in two-tone green. I learned to drive in it. Same deal, 230 flathead with Powerflite.

I should have known who Lou Costabile is, but I didn’t before he introduced himself, and had me drive around in Faulkner for some pix and flix! He promises to let me know when Faulkner will appear on My Car Story with Lou Costabile. Watch this space!

Only a single day’s visit to Carlisle this year, and the traditional overnight stay in the Official '59 Plymouth Motel ™ - the Mechanicsburg Motel 6.

On the way home Sunday morning.

Quick pit stop

The Valley Forge exit, where Faulkner’s Torqueflite gave out back in 2006. I fared better this time!

Matthew returned later in the day, for the traditional doggie shot. Welcome "Exner", a 12-week-old Aussie Doodle!

Come Tuesday, Matthew was off. Until next year!
