We have arrived… Now, to score some bumper wings.
…and Jiffy Bag brackets! ![]()
Walked into the Van’s tent to pick up a gas tank, straps (yes, mine won’t fit) and filter. They want to repop the complete antennas! I gave them mine, they gave me $300 worth of parts for $125 - and I get repops when they’re done! SCORE!!
Go easy, l’m easily confused. Splain Vans tent, are those the correct antennas for curved deck or the ones you had. Does repop mean rechromed? $100.00 for the pair?? Wow. Unbelieveable. Hurry, go buy a power ball ticket.
Dick
Dick,
Vans Auto reproduces all kinds of things. They want to reproduce the twin antennas for curved decks on 57-59 dodges and plymouths. The are going to reproduce from mine - from base to telescoping antenna to rubber grommet to gasket to washers to coax. Will prolly sell in the $500 range for a pair, and I will get a pair back! That, plus $175 off the cost of the tank, straps and filter. Not bad for a $100 investment in the antennas.
Dan
PS - I also scored a pair of bumper wings for $500, should rechrome nicely. They are not for me, though…
BTW, the pair I had were Chebby repops for $30. Somebody will buy 'em. Maybe I’ll put on my Hyundai ![]()
Oh yeah - I had a dealer set aside ANOTHER pair of antenna bases, plus two decent mirrors, until the adjacent dealer who owned them got back in 20 minutes. When I returned, the box I had set aside was just being sold for $100. I shoulda been pissed - especially since the dealer hangs out in the Forward Look tent - but after the deals I made today, I guess I can’t complain.
You shouda!!!
Notice I didn’t say anything about Jiffy Bag hangers.
Is that GUILT showing??
Yes!!
Well, we don’t have the hangers, but we have a source…
Another score! A pair of rocker moldings for $50 - one needs a little work, the other is near perfect. This, from the guy who sold me the antennas and bumper wings, he’s packing up. These will go to a needy Forum member or friend of a member, for what I paid + shipping.
I photographed all his odds and ends, will post when I get home with his email address. Note to Doc '59: No Jiffy bag brackets ![]()
Moon over Carlisle. The end to another good day, not quite as hot as yesterday, and a nice cool breeze now. Folks still talking cars, enjoying a fine summer evening.
Here’s my pix! Matthew was clever enough to rent a MoPar, so we were able to register and park on the showfield. Ain’t it a looker!
On Saturday about 8a, we spotted this car owned by Daniel Dalton - it was gone about 10a! We never met him, and no one seems to know who he is. I gave my contact info at the registration booth, hopefully they will contact him and he will get in touch with me. Sweet ride!
Jimmy Rawa brought two cars this year. If you look at the fender eyebrows on his '59 in last year’s Carlisle pix, you’ll see the amazing job he did repairing them. He told me he got the frenched contour of the eyebrow by bending sheet metal over his knee!
