Wow, 2019 was the year that was. A fitting celebration for the 60th Anniversary of the 1959 Plymouth. Will next year be anything like it? I suspect not. But, I got this note from the Official '59 Plymouth Motel:
I’m going to book myself a room for Friday and Saturday night. Anyone else want me to book a room for them?
I’ve got three rooms reserved at the ‘59 Plymouth Motel (Motel 6) in Mechanicsburg, PA - Thursday 9-Jul-20, Friday 10-Jul-20 and Saturday 10-Jul-20. Same rate as last year, $120 + hotel tax. One for me, one for the Keijs, and one for you! Who’s comin’?!?
Darn. …once again Carlisle is being held on same weekend as the Iola Old Car Show. One of these years, maybe. I think a few years ago it was a weekend apart but can’t remember why I didn’t go. Sent my preregistration stuff in last week for Iola '20 so spring can’t be too far away. My '59 is hibernating in my garage all tucked in patiently waiting for April…last year it was May. Gotta get that salt off the roads.
Anyway, Dan, congrats on the latest Plymouth Bulletin (Sep-Oct '19). Received mine today. Awesome '59 coverage.
Thanks John! I can’t wait to see it - it seems like I’m the last one to receive the Bulletin We will miss you at Carlisle, as usual - but please post pix from Iola!
Folks, it’s beginning to look grim for Carlisle 2020 - I’ve been following the announcements for many meetings of all sorts, all of which seem to take the same course of events: 1) Hoping to see you there, 2) We will take every precaution, 3) We will make a final decision as the time gets closer, 4) The event is cancelled.
Here’s the Fairgrounds announcement about Spring Carlisle:
Even if the Chrysler Nationals end up being held, it’s not likely I’ll go this year… At my age, the risk is too great. I can’t even predict when I’ll go back to work, if ever (fortunately I can work from home for the time being). Mary Kay and I have cut off all social contacts, including family - we’re relying on FaceTime and Google Hangouts a lot.
So if I don’t see you there this year, look for me next year. Hey, maybe even with Martha (if I can get Matthew or Ron to drive Faulkner). Take care of yourselves, and your loved ones.
John, I check every other day or so, expecting a cancellation. It must be a bitter pill to swallow, and a lot of revenue lost - but I’m sure their ticket reservations are down, and their cancellations are up. I won’t be surprised to see it fold for this year
Bummer, I was able to get that time scheduled off this year and was really looking forward to it. I was talking to Matthew yesterday about it. Even if the slim chance it does still happen this year I am sure the attendance will be much much lower. A lot of the older crowd probably wont be confident enough to travel and take part in a crowded event like this and a lot of people are hurting financially and do not have the funds available to attend.
…“We’ve been waiting day by day to try to learn what was going to happen, whether we could do a safe event, or whether we could even have an event,” he said. “We had certainly hoped that by this time we’d be out of the weeds, but at this time there’s no data to guarantee that we could move forward with the event.”
I bet a lot of people aren’t going though.
To be honest, I’m really thinking about skipping this Carlisle and take 3 weeks for Hershey and some other stuff.
Yup, the Carlisle Chrysler Nationals are still on. My posting was about how the Hershey swap meet was cancelled (for the first time in its history). The car show may go on, but time will tell.
Coronavirus (COVID-19) is causing events to be cancelled or rescheduled. We will do our best to update events when we find out, but please check with the event directly before attending. Whenever possible we include links to their facebook page (look for the ‘visit event website’ link on our event pages), flyers which contain event contact info, or contact info in the event description.
