Bellows brake booster.

Hi guys. I have to replace the brake booster on my Belvedere. Reading the Service manual it says wedge brake lever??? and undo booster from brace bracket. Do you need to undo the and remove the brace bracket to do this? or can it be done with the bracket in place. Looking at it there is a nut either side of the bracket that lock the booster in place. If the bracket needs to come right off do I need to remove the master cylinder to do this or not. Any advice appreciated. Robbie.

The bracket can stay there.
There are 4 nuts that holds the booster in place.

Better to do this with an extra pair of hands

Thanks Matthew. So I take it you slacken all the nuts, do you then have to undo the studs out of the booster to remove it? Are the 4 nuts accessed from the engine bay or from the firewall inside?

The 4 nuts are on the inside of the firewall.
The studs are staying in the booster.

Can post pics later today if you want

Yes please. I have had a look inside the firewall but cant see nor feel them. Pics may help. Cheers

Sorry! Forgot about the pic!

Here it is

Best way to access the four nuts is with a long 1/4" extension on ratchet, I used a small 1/4’ “Wobble” extension for the awkward reach. This is what I remember if the dash frame is still in place and to get around the pedal brackets.

Can’t remember if the nuts were 7/17" or 1/2" but one of those two sockets will work on the long 1/4 drive extension and ratchet.

Just my opinion of course..

Lol all that and being a contortionist would help as well. Have got it out thanks guys. Now to see if my local brake guys can build a good one out of the two I have. As an aside I came across another guy here in Christchurch today who has 2 59’s and a 57 as a parts car. 1 2 door coupe and a Fury.
