Good Morning!
The rear bumper on my 59 SF is (was) missing both of the bump stops, i think some refer to these as bumper guards.. I have seen pics of 2 different types; the first type are all chrome; the second type have a rubber pad mounted on the stop. As it turns out, I have a nice set of the chrome only ones, but I was finally able to get into the trunk of my project and lo and behold(!) there was a single stop of the 2nd type… Was this some kind of (odd) option? both fit in the designated spot perfectly and honestly, both look good, imo, but in a practical sense it would seem that the rubber padded one would be less prone to light damage..
Jes wonderin.. Thanks!

Hi Henry,
Yes - bumper guards were optionally available on the '59 Plymouth (option #355) - not just on the rear bumper guards, but on the front bumper as well. Here are pix of a '59 Sport Fury (not mine) with both.
Thanks for the pic!
I actually have 2 different types; one set without the rubber (solid chrome) and another that has the rubber stops added; They have detents to accommodate the rubber stops. I wonder if the front bumper also has a detent for the rubber, or if its simply glued on.. The rear stops have holes drilled in them for the mounting bolts for the rubber… Ive been looking for a replacement set of the rubber part but haven’t found any repros yet so Ill likely just use the full chrome ones until then.
Will Walker has a project car that has these rubber bumpers - here are some pix, and a convo I had with Will:
There is a clip for the fronts
I believe the clips are at the bumper bolts but I’ll have to look closer next time I visit the SF
thanks for those pics!
Personally I like the chrome only front bumper look.. The rear bumperettes rubber does have 2 bolts embedded into them with a mounting plate for the rubber, as I happen to have one with the plate still and missing the the rubber part… Seems like it would make a good location for eventual corrosion, esp up here in the NE
