Fun to look thru his inventory:
rustfreewesterncars.com
The Fury is over-priced for its condition, I should think. Looks like some damage to windshield surround. I am aking Mr Quinn if he’s seen this car (or the much nicer? '60 Pioneer 2HT for $2K)
Roger, No I did not even know that the car was for sale but I will check it out this week. If anyone is interested, I will really give it the once over.

Well, I finally go a hold of the guy (Doug) at this rustfree Western car place. I will go up to Eire, Colo (30 mins away) this Sunday to check out the car for all who are interested in it.
Doug (the proprietor or at least the guy who answered the phone) said they are going to SandBlast it and get some new paint on it if no one buys it.
Will report again on my findings this weekend!
John Q.
You know the ropes, John. People sign in to this site, ask where they can buy a '59, then disappear. I will enjoy your findings (check out the '60 Dodge please!) ![]()
Thanks for the reminder on the 60 Dodge too! I will take some additionl pictures of both vehicles.
John Q.
John,
Did you pay a visit to the yard last SUnday, Aug 8th?
Roger, I did NOT make it to see it. I ended up spending most of the day (Sunday) putting in my 413 motor and when not doing that my wife had me dividing Iris’s in the garden of her hobby (which is now part mine by marriage)… Joy!
I have his number and will try again this week or weekend.
John Q.
fear not, if you never make it there. I’d rather learn of your progress reports on teh convertible-
Roger , yep forgot the “not” part of seeing the 59 in North Dener area. I am making progress on the convert with the motor and tranny in and still have a few spots of additional welds on the floor to finish up before the seam sealer is put down, But at least the motor is in the car and can try to start the wiring up of the car this weekend.
Our local Mopar club car show is on August 21st but it looks like I won’t have it all buttoned up by then. Oh well…
John Q.
Joh, did you ever make it to this place? any report on the Dodge?
I heard about a ca auction happening this SUnday…a 1961 Dodge station wagon on the block…would be one unique ride.
My son’s next door neighbor has a Black 1961 Dodge Pioneer wagon, 318 poly, Torque Flite. So ugly it is stunning. The family bought it new in 1960. They have parked it out side and does not appear to be running any more. Not a in too bad of condition for a utilitarian vehicle of that age. I’ll check on it if someone is seriously interested.
always fun to see pics of “bizarre” cars, RickyMopar. THere is a 61 wagon going up for austion here in Tacoma, WA next Saturday. Reportedly it is a 4 door sedan wagon (Seneca or Pioneer), only the Polara came as a 4 HT wagon.
Roger, I did not get a chance this weekend to see Doug on the 59 Plymouth or the Dodge. We had our club annual car show on Saturday that took up most of the day on Saturday and then Worked on my own 59.
Kinda embarrassing put had to pull the motor and trans out again. Seems I did not line up the Touque converter and the Tranny correctly and the engine would not turn over. Not with the starter motor but with a breaker bar on the Harmonic Balancer bolt just to get to a dented lip on one of the pulleys. This started the quest to figure out why it seemed locked up and after yanking it out as a assembly, I split the two apart and with help from a club member, we rotated the drive device a 1/2 inch to the 12 O’clock position and it slipped right in after a hour being out of the car. Just to make sure we rotated the engine with the breaker bar and all was well.
Lucky no damage to the Tranny or the Turque Convertor. Had I not discovered by accident, I would have assembled the entire front clip only to discover it later when I would try to start it with a key, So all in all, I lost one day of garage time to correct the problem. This was my first install of an Cast Iron TF and could have been my last one too!
Thanks to a Conversation with Ricky Mopar (lives 15 mins away) and Tony Richards (More Power Masters) they diagnosed it without even seeing the car. Glad I have my own Cherry Picker engine hoist or I would be constantly renting one and blowing thru dollars quickly.
I will call Doug tomorrow and see if I can scoot up there this week.
John Q.
So glad you discovered that “in time”! It’s great to have knowlegeable friends!
Don’t sweat the salvage Fury. Stick with what’s important.
Been there, done that, with the tranny engine alignment on my '59. Those cast iron TF are heavy.
Make sure to use new lock washers on those 4 bolts that attach tranny to engine. I didn’t and bolts loosened up and produced a vibration in car that took me a couple months to find. When I found it, 1 bolt was gone, 1 was just about to come out, and the other 2 were loose. Lock washers were flat, no locking feature left in them. Simple thing like that could have ruined my new tranny.
I agree, I am glad to have discovered the mis-alignment before I had the front clip on. I was able to get the motor in and out pretty quickly and am glad to now for sure it is aligned correctly.
I checked my washers and I do have them in place from the tranny to the bell housing and even put them on the bell housing to the rear of the motor connection too just to make sure.
Glad I took a lot of tear down photo’s of the convert, it is helping me put mine back together again. I look at everyones car pictures for little tidbits to on how cables and hoses are routed thru and behind things in the engine compartment.

John - the important word in my post was NEW washers.. I reused the old ones, by habit or not thinking that they were at the time about 42 years old.
When my buddy and I put new trany in, I remember, I think, torque converter wouldn’t turn. We had old trany setting next to car so could see how all the splines were situated so made it a little easier on a couple of rookies and after a little “adjusting” everything went together and meshed.
One memorable event; we were laying under car and he was turning flywheel with tool to get some bolts on torque converter lined up and I felt something dripping on my chest. What happened is that I had disconnected battery cable and it kind of got between fan blade and radiator so when he was turning flywheel, fan blade was turning and forced the end of battery cable into radiator thus making hole and that something dripping on my chest was antifreeze
I ended up taking radiator out of my parts car and am still using that.
Fins59, I did replace those washers just failed to comment that I did, but I did not on the 8 Trans support bolts.
I need to replace those too. Thanks for the reminder.
Getting dark earlier now…I am missing the long days of summer already, but there is a 3 day weekend coming up in a few days and hopefully get some more work done.
Tonight I switched out the single speed wipers for the varible speed one I just got in last week, Glad I recieved the varible speed assembly before the dash goes in this weekend.
