Just because everybody needs to stay busy!
Whoa!!! a dual setup, nice. Did that to Charleen’s 318 but had and are still having a problems with the linkage (kick down) from the rear carburetor to the bellcrank. Also the pedal angle, changed the pedal base but it didn’t help. Car runs and drives but still not right. Keep us posted on your progress, especially your linkage setup with lots of pictures.
Good luck,
Dick.
Frank helped me a lot on the dual quads. I have most of the parts, still need a few small things.
The linkage should be the same for all the cars except the parts that clicks onto the carbs. I have one ready and it’s a lot shorter then the others.
Quick update here, been busy this morning
Looking real good Matt !!! Mark
Wow! Really looks great! I have never seen a 59 Sport-Fury with dual four barrels, as well as air conditioning. John Quinn better step up… I have 300 E performance heads with the big valves and an intake, Just need better carbs. Matthew I still have 8.75 Mo-Par goodies for you. At your elevation a 361 runs as well as a 413 at my elevation. What was your over bore as well as camshaft specs? PM me if you want.
I know Rick, I should have the 413 dual four barrel intake repaired shortly and will work on getting the two Carter AFB’s I have rebuilt. So I should have my 300E conversion on my 413 done by May.
Now that the snow has abated and warmer weather ahead, I will be able to get the 59 out and about again.
John Q.
John; If anyone would know how hard you have been working it would be us. I am sorry if I was having a little fun at your expense… I do apologize. Post Script, I just picked up one pair of 300 J heads and 3 sets of 300 K heads castings only new in boxes.
Rick, those 300J heads are RARE!!!
Hooefully I will be able to drive the car around this weekend to break in the engine.
Rick, I knew you were kidding me! You were the one who found me the intake from a 300E intake for me.. Life has been hectic for me…
John Q.
She lives!!!
Front carb still needs some adjustments as it wants to stall when the front carb kicks in.
Also had a fuel leak which is already fixed. Stupid gasket between the tank and sender wasn’t in its place so i replaced it with a new gasket and ring from summit. The gaskets they have with the ring are so much better then the original ones.
But it was really good to drive! Especially with the top down
Update time!
Had a blast going to Germany meeting Roland again and Sebastian stopped by without his car.
At the show we mounted Roland his bumper wings and had a great weekend.
Then on the way home the car started to surge. Stopped on the pull off lane on the highway.
Car ran fine again and I drove further for another 20 minutes, same issue again. After stopping 3 times the car completely died about 20 miles from home.
Car got towed home and I was pissed and done with it. Wanted to take a break for a week or 2 but couldn’t resist.
I had the tank that came on the vert fixed as it was leaking, adjusted the fuel sender but all the filters were still clean. Mounted the tank back and filled it up again but the car still didn’t fired up.
We decided to change the pump but didn’t made a difference. Then we took the fuel pump push rod out, that was another story!!! It was 7mm shorter then it used to be so I put in the old push rod and the car fired right back up!
I have heard it more than once, Matthew - size matters

Glad you got it sorted out.
Dan
Splain me why shorter??
Dick
Mr Koch, that’s the whole issue. It shouldn’t be shorter and it wasn’t shorter when I rebuild the engine!
Next thing to do: change the oil
Make sure you use ZDDP in that oil!!! ![]()
Dick
I am surprised that the cam can still actuate the pump after that much wear! Even with a new push rod.. the debris must be in the oil pan and filter.
Wait, I had assumed from this thread, that the new pushrod was (incorrectly) shorter than the original. When I look at the shorter, new rod, it doesn’t appear to be worn. Am I mistaken about that? Was it really as long as the old rod, and wore down?
It was really as long as the old one! I wasn’t getting any fuel to the carb as the push rod runs on the camshaft and it runs the fuel pump. The cam didn’t pushed it down on the pump so no fuel at all.
Rick, I really hope all of the debris is in the pan and filter. I don’t want more damage
