Rebuilding the 318

Looking good guys

At least that’s one way of keeping warm during winter

This just in from Ron:

Well we didn’t see much of the soccer game today but our team won  We did see a lot of the garage though.
Friday we got the new intake manifold and it had to be media blasted so we went out to do so on Saturday morning.

Also had some other stuff that we had to do and then a few hours later we got home and started putting the oil pan on. We had orderded the gasket in Germany as it was the only one not in the rebuild kit we have. It broke in different places and just came out when we tightened the bolts :frowning: Had to find another one fast and there was one company in the country teat had a set in stock. A 2 hour drive and we could go on working on the engine.

We got it all assembled but it was getting to late to paint it. So this morning we build a tent in the garage and finally we could start painting.

4 layers of primer, 3 layers of paint and 3 layers claer coat should do the job.

Exhausted? Paint fumes? Just painting the oil pan

adding some color

Wow! We are in the winter doldrums. Not much going on, except for what’s happening in Poortvliet. In the interest of keeping the website alive, I’m posting here a pic Matthew recently sent. Lookin’ good!

And the engine is in! Can’t wait for the videos…

New pics!!!

Matthew! Did I order this decal?

I chickened out and sent my P/S pump out to be rebuilt. It was kinda greasy, but if I’m not mistaken the housing had actually been painted blue. Any chance it came like that from the factory?

Yes - I did! Because you told me to!

IT’S ALIVE!!!

After lots of work today we got the engine running for the first time since the rebuild :exclamation: :exclamation:  Took a while to get it started but with the help of our friend Andre we got it running, a bit loud without exhaust pipes but it ran well. Now we need to adjust the timing and replace the oil pressure sender.

Awesome!! The sheer power of a Poly 318!!!

Hey Matthew, are the heater hoses on right? :stuck_out_tongue:

Dan - You are right, the 318 Poly in my Convertible is a two bbl. Rated 240 HP but it will flat light up and burn rubber, lots of torque.
Dick.

We (Matthew) do not only work on the engine but we do the whole package. He also worked on the rear window defroster that is now ready to go in. And he did some amazing work on the headlights as well, it all looks like new :sunglasses:

Ron,Matt; She is looking great !!! Mark

Really looking good guys! The Dutch do amazing work…

And more amazing work by Matthew, while I was busy painting ceilings and all the woodwork in the living room and kitchen he started finishing the front of the car with a little help every now and then. No headlight rings on it yet, first we need to make sure the beam is aimed right. He did clean up all parts first and everything he put on was spotless!!

This is how it looked when the weekend started

Fantastic, superb work.

Be-yoot-ti-full!!

Matthew’s coming for Carlisle, Dick! Send those chains up, will ya…

On the way, Fed-Ex, pad lock included.

Oh damn!!

Hope to have some more pics next week.
I’ll be dropping off some parts for powdercoating tomorrow
