Happy 4th of July; I have the cannister brake booster off and am trying to track down the hissing/sucking sound when I begin to apply the brakes. The motor will also idle A little rough when stepping on the pedal, but otherwise everything works as it should, seems to stop ok,and the motor resumes to A nice idle after the pedal it released, must be A vacuum leak.Does anyone know where to get A rebuild kit for the booster,I think I can do it,doesn’t look to difficult.Has anyone had A rebuilder do it,if so how much? And who does it? I have discovered A broken spacer(plastic) sandwiched between the booster plate and the retainer/gasket,it would face the fire wall and it might be the source of the sound.Has anyone ever ridden one of these animals,Dick,Roger,John? I am also going to replace the master cylinder,it don’t look to difficult. Thanks Mark M
Mark - These are above my pay scale. I send mine to a rebuilder in Ft. Lauderdale. If you can get a hold of a copy of Hemmings Motor News you can find just about anything or anyone that can help in rebuilding or parts for old cars.
Dick.
Dick;Thanks I’ll post up what I find. Mark M
Just saw this post…there is Dewey’s Booster Rebuild and there’s Karp’s.
I do believe you’ve found the problem…the only booster I had was the exposed bellows kind which needed a new bellows, so I had to pay Karp’s price ($300, as I recall). The bellows is the expensive part. I suggest you contact Karp’s in California…see if you can buy just that one ring thing
