Cool!
(I think Russ Housen went thru a nasty divorce and sold his car)

Since there was a message here, I will respond. I have the Sport Fury convertible that Russ Housen had.

Tim Baker

Hello Tim,
Thanks for chiming in! I know that information is somewhere in its archives..thanks for refreshing my memory  ! Tim’s SF can be seen en one of those oval “cameo” pictures that flit by,probably also in the Showcase under Russ Housen, but something won’t allow me to open that up right now.

Should we add the Fairmount, Georgia POS rusted hulk black SF cvt, recently on Craigslist?

Ahhh those 59 Belvedere Converts are a rare and tight knit group. (Though I would love a SF Convert myself! But keep that a secret) :unamused:

Roger told me once that there were 5990 SF Converts made in 1959 and slightly less production total of 5063 Belvedere Convertible were made the same year. Roger correct me if you will.

By the looks of it, the SF convert, being a higher trim level, survived much better in numbers then Belvedere converts did. People just took better care of the higher styled SF’s you can say…

John Q.

Quoting from The Standard Catalog of Chrysler, by Krause Publications
Production of SF cvt=5,990
Production of Belv cvt=5,063
Factory price for basic SF cvt=3125.
Facory price for basic Belv ct=2814.
The difference is a mere $311, less than the price of factory a/c ($445.60)
The various factors affecting the life of our cars includes
Driving on salted roads
Maintenance, including garaging
Amount of use
One would imagine Sf buyers were “making a statement”, announcing their wealth.
Belv buyers may also have been showing off, but perhaps on a budget?
Both groups were out to have fun, and all had excellent taste in cars.

I just corrected the list, in case anyone finds a cvt just let me know and i will put it in the list.

Roger, do you mean the SF cvt that was on craigslist?

and Jim Hamsher has another one to restore waiting for him.

Seems to me the rarer Belvedere Convertible (only 4) would be the more desirable and worth more, right Tom.
Dick.

I count 7 Belvedere convertibles in Matthew’s list… and I don’t know how many of the Sport Fury’s were converted from Belvedere to Sport Fury by Mopar Mel  I know our convertible is build out of a Belvedere convertible and a Sport Fury hardtop, nothing wrong with getting the best of both worlds :sunglasses:

Ron

Don’t tell anyone :open_mouth:

Our newest member Jack Fluery from way upstate New York has a 59 Belvedere convertible, almost completed.

Tom Fox

I was reading over the list, and saw that Harvey Weaver was not on it. He has a red 59 Sport Fury convertible, that I believe was originally black.

Tim

Ron - I looked away as I hit the 7 key and hit the 4 key instead. Sorry, Opps, make that 8 per Tom.
Dick.

I like where you are going with that thinking Dick!

John Q.

Going thru old photos, I just remembered another SF cvt I knew of.
In fact, it was located only 1/2 mile from my house at the time. He was the second owner and wouldnt sell for 30 years it was rumored. For those 30 years it sat outside his house, with only a succession of tarps covering it. Needless to say, it was REAL bad when I saw it…He turned down my $2k offer. He then gave it away to the next person who inquired about it…a retired cop from Tacoma, who also owned a HT since new and was in the process of restoring it.
The cop then had a stroke, but last I heard he was still tying to complete the HT. I know nothing about the cvt’s fate.

Tacoma eh? If you know the police officers name. can you inquire someday on the fate of that convert?

That would be a great start for you “do it all over again” Convert project. Or I can cold call him if you want to check on the status if the car still exists and what his plans are for it. Or you can keep this your little secret like my warehose convert was till I spilled the beans on it. :stuck_out_tongue:

John Q.

John Q,
The Tacoma’s guy’s name is David Smith. He used to own a steakhouse in Tacoma after retiring from the force. I heard the stroke robbed him of his ability to speak and paralyzed one arm. I sent some faded photos of this cvt to Dan M. Maybe Dan will post them, at which time you will see its condition was almost as bad as John Fowlie’s Ithaca, NY car. David may have over the years realised that he can’t restore and use it as he would have wanted.
My harsh reality is that I am unemployed and running near empty. I have no place to keep a project and no money to put into one. I had to sell or give away a lot of my restoration tools. So you don’t have to worry about me stealing your warehouse car!
But I’m still here to offer my two cents.

No worries on the Rhode Island car, if I can even find the guys name anymore.

I have been clamoring for a while to have Matthew fly over to help me. And here I have a tried and true 59 Plymouth expert here in the states that I should have lured here to Colorado to help me finish my car! You are only 2 1/2 away from me.

I may send you a plane ticket to come out for a long weekend to lend your expertise (I will pay you if I do for your time) I need to get going on the convert as it is now almost February and did not make much progress in January.
