Sure could use about 6 of these, can anybody help. These are the little clips that the cardboard headline rest in on the outer edge.
Thanks,
Dick.
THIS IS WHERE THEY GO.

If anybody has more than 6 of these clips I sure would like to buy the leftovers.

Ron and Dick, If no one has a stash in their garage for there needs right away, I can go to my local salvage yards on Monday or Tuesday. There are 4 59 Plyms I can take them off of. (there are two 2 doors HT’s a 2 door wagon and one 4 door that will probably have them.
But lets see if someone has these pulled already before I head out into the cold Colorado weather..Brrrrrr…
Dick you need 6 and Ron, how many do you need?

John,
I don’t know about Dick but I am in no hurry at all and there is no need to go out in the cold Colorado weather! Although I would love to go out in the Colorado cold today instead of the miserable Dutch weather with fog and rain. If you could pull them in the spring I’d be more than happy.
Ron
John, what a great offer but I’m in no rush either, no need to go out in the cold right away. When you do go see if there are any decent cardboard headliner panels also. Man, I wish I had a couple of parts cars at my disposal. Lucky you.
Dick.
Dick and Ron, I will go to these salvage yards sometime this week, probably next Saturday would be better for me anyhow with Christmas coming. I was going to go there anyhow to grab som gas tank straps for the 69 Charger I am putting together for my 19 year old.
I was going to go over to the those 59’s to see what shape the trunk floors might be in for my Convert. The floor section I had already had cut out of one of them for my car. Don’t know if the cardboard headliners are still good but I will check.

John - If you don’t have any luck with the trunk floors contact Bob at my55rock@aol.com he does a beautiful factor reproduction trunk floor. I just got one from him. I think he is in Conneticut, it cost me $800.00 plus but it included shipping costs. He will send you pictures. It took awhile but was worth the wait.
Dick.
Hey Dick, I just ran across some headliner clips on Ebay. I think they are the ones you need and here’s the link. Ron
Thanks Ron - Not them though. Appreciate you keeping an eye out for me.
Dick.
Well, I don’t have my old upper siderails down yet – a couple years back, I bought a painted pair from John Fowlie and had them rechromed, they’ll go up when I have the headliner redone – but I’m puzzed about these clips. Perhaps it’s because my current headliner isn’t original; but, don’t the siderails hold the headliner up at the edges? How do these clips help?
Curt Lambdin’s been discussing repros with Restoration Specialties (http://www.restorationspecialties.com/), and I’d gladly send them one as a sample if I had one. Won’t know if I do, until I drop the rails! But I’d sure like to know why they’re needed.
Dan
Dan - The outer edge of the cardboard headliners rest in these clips and hold it in place, then you attach the inner chrome upper rail. Look at my previous post to this thread and you will see pictures of the clips, where they go and size.
Dick.
Yeah, I get that, Dick. But there’s no space between the upper chrome rail and the headliner, is there? So, of the rails are there – don’t they hold the headliner up? Why the clips?
I can believe they are needed. I just don’t get why.
Dan
Dan - Those clips are there to keep the headliner from sliding down to far. They hold the headlinger at a fixed position so the other edge will fit in the rail and not fall out. The inner chrome rail doesn’t really hold anything, it’s mostly to cover everthing, it probably holds it somewhat but I don’t think
that is its main purpose.
Dick.
Dick, the clips I had picked up for you ended up to be the clips for the headliner rods in a sedan for the bows, Not the ones you needed for the cardboard headliner. The one sport coupe in a salvage yard that I know of here in town has been closed while the owner is going thru Chemo-Therapy. It has been closed for over 2 months now. Until the owner feels better, I can’t check that one car for you.
Maybe John Big M might have some with the cars he has… I checked the Gary Goers catalog and he does not offer them either. Do you know if these clips were used in other years of cars? That might expand our search for you.
John Q.
John - Big M checked for me a while back. The only other car that may have had them is the 57 & 58 Fury and then if they had the cardboard headliner. I guess I’ll have to make something similar. Thanks for your help.
Dick.
Hmmm… I have to confess, I’m still not getting this.
Tonight I dropped one of the inner chrome rails from Faulkner. Yup, the three clips are there. Here’s a pic of the front one:
How can the clip hold up the cardboard – if the clip is covered by the rail?
I’m thinking it must have some other purpose. Is it to springload the rail to keep it away from the roof frame, so that the rail always forms a ledge for the headliner?
Speculating now. But I don’t think the clips come into direct contact with the headliner, at all…
Dan
Trust Me - The outer edge of the outer cardboard headliner rests in the clip then the inner chrome rail covers the edge of the cardboard and the clip. By the way if you do not have the three piece headliner in your car and don’t need the clips I would very much like to purchase them from you.
Dick.
My headliner isn’t original, Dick – although, it is three piece and will remain so.
It sounds like the original has notches in it, that fit into the clips? Is there a beveled edge to the side panels, that permits them to slide behind the chrome and sit on the clips?
I guess it would help to see a photo of the edge of the original headliner sections, not just a photo of the clips.
Dan
P.S. now that I see what everyone is talking about – I’ll be happy to mail one to Restoration Specialties, and see if they can repro them. Not ready to give mine up yet, though, until (and unless) I understand what this is all about
The World’s Slowest Auto Mechanic dropped the other upper chrome rail tonight – yup, the three clips are there. I’ve emailed Restoration Specialties, to see if they will return the clip to me quickly after they inspect (and, hopefully try to reproduce – thanks for the contact, Curt).
I still would like to see a photo of an original headliner outside edge, if anyone can provide…
Dan
No word from Restoration Specialties. I guess I’ll give them a phone call.
No one have a pic of the outer edge of an original left or right headliner piece?
Dan
