Amp light

I thought id ask if anyones experienced this before i go into trial and error…
Was out for a summer night cruise tonight, the old P ran along just fine, and when i got home and turned the engine off,the AMP light stayed on!
I shut the key off and then on and off again and it stayed on.so i disconnected the battery and when i put the cable back on the negative post,i got a big spark,so i left it off and came inside…
Seems to me that a circuit may be open, any ideas anyone?

Bob, sounds like the cutout relay in the voltage regulator is the culprit. This relay opens when the key is turned off, so that battery power does not run to ground through the generator. —John

I came out today and hooked up the battery and everythings fine now,so maybe just “one of those things”

Bob

I agree with John..voltage regulator at fault..could be due to infrequent use,if it appens again, consider installing a new regulator

Got a bid in one right now on ebay!

Bob

Call NAPA they usually have regulators in stock, usually cheaper than ebay when you consider freight.
