Rear Brakes

Yesterday as I accelerated 0-30 mph I got a death shudder from the rear in my '61 Fury.
I stopped and took a breath and took off again. It did it 2 or 3 times and then was fine.

I am thinking it could be a loose brake shoe maybe.
Googled rear axle and everywhere it is saying I will need a puller to remove the rear shoes. Is this correct?

Just want to get my tooling right before pulling to bits.

Stu, yes - it's removing the drum that's the challenge, in order to get to the shoes. You need a critter that looks like this (nabbed this off the web, although I am sure there are pix on this site):

The axle has an indent that centers the screw as you hammer the cross arm. And, hammer you will! Be sure to remove the crown nut and screw it back on, crown first. When the drum finally KrrrRacks off the axle, the nut will stop the drum and attached puller from flying into the family jewels.

Oh yeah, back off your shoes as best you can before you lay into it. Post pix!
