[Gary purchased his Mayfair ("Finnegan") in November of 2021. It's been delightful to follow his experience on Facebook in improving the car, and much of it has been lifted to appear here in "Before and After" pix. You can find more details of his activity in the "Garage -> Rebuilds" section of the Forum. First, some "Before" pix! -Dan]
Kinda dig this car. Will have a look later in the week. It's a Canadian model 1959 Dodge Mayfair. If Batman had kids and lived in the 'burbs, this is how he would roll. Anna won't let me paint it Black and put bats on the door 8^(Went to see the car today and bought it.I've decided to call it "Finnegan"
All I know about the car is it spent it's formative years in Vancouver, before being put out to pasture in Saskatchewan where I found it. It does sorta run and drive, but the rt. fr. brakes are on the steel and the wipers etc. are so so, I decided it wasn't worth the gamble to drive it the 2 hr's to my place. Power nothing, push button auto, 313 poly V7 (it seems at the moment.)
I've only had it 3 weeks but I love it! Asleep for the winter.
[The roof came up nicely after polishing, and the hood and trunk were sanded, primed and painted - as well as other parts of the car, after metalwork was complete (see "Rebuild"). Some kool "After" pix! -Dan]
Took most of the day, but Finnegan's front is done! I went with a Black mesh grill to highlight the chrome. Easily undone if the next person doesn't like it.Also found an owner's manual in the glove box in a plastic sleeve. real or repro??It is almost too minty to be realEnded up repainting the hub caps instead of using the stickers. Happy with the result.Considering that I re did my pass rear wheel well using a piece of cardboard for the shape from the other side, I'm happy how close I got. The NEW rear skirts fit better than I thought they would and will help me fine tune the shape."Yeah... It's Got A Poly!At one point Gary bought a Mirada, thinking he would cannibalize the rear end for the Mayfair. But... "The Mirada will be saved and not parted out. Checked out on the hoist. Too good to kill."Couldn't resist a cheap, running 64 bug! Looks like the 59 Plodge pooped out a bug!
