As I recall, it was much like any make car of the vintage...ignition key, different key for glove box/trunk.

Roger is spot on! Doors and ignition the same, trunk is a stand alone key and glove box key lock is also a stand alone key code.

Actually John, I thought they were two-key cars. But as the glove box lock was optional, I see the need for a third key. (Thanks for covering for me!)

You are right as usual, On my convert it was part of the one of the option packages. But when ordered on any car, it is not matched to any of the other key codes existing on the car is what I meant to say. My bad!

Okay, now youu're really confusing me (easy to do)!
Are the following statements correct:
- Key One will open doors and ignition
-Key Two operates trunk only
- Key Three operates Glove box lock, if so ordered
???

Correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't the trunk key also be the key to the glove box? When I had my 59 Plymouth, it didn't have a glove box lock, but traditionally in cars of that era that used more than one key, it was usually..

1 key for door. ignition.
1 key for the trunk, trunk key also for glove box when equipped with lock.

I've never known of a car from that time coming out of the factory with 3 keys!

My short answer: I simply do not know the true answer!
I agree with you that 2 keys were the norm even back then. Is there anything in the Supplement, or maybe Ephemera, that deals with keys?

It is a good question, On my car, which was equipped with a glove box lock, my original trunk key that did come for my car (a DCDP symboled one) I had, did not fit or work the glove box mechanism. So I had to get a different key made to fit the key code sequence of the glove box.

Now maybe at some point in the 50+ years the glove box insert may been changed from what was original. But for now I have three keys for the car.

I do have a optional key locking gas cap, so I guess I have 4 keys for my car. LOL But I will compare my trunk key and glove box key to see if it is the same style of key (length and form) to see if that could work.

It would be nice to have the trunk and glove box be the same key code that is for sure! Just was not on my car when found.

Copied this page from the owner's manual from the Ephemera section of this website.

Mark, I saw this after I sent you the photo of my original keys, and it confirms what I gave you for info about the two keys used.

Also, Mark, FYI: I just saw your request about convertible top boots - I still have my original, someplace. Stored rather lumply for the past 45 years but it is available to look at and measure if interested.

Bernie, thank you for some excellent research and reporting! Matthew can correct me, but I seem to recall having the glove box keyed to match the door/ignition key. (The glovebox latch on that car is tempermental..they weren't made to last long).
If Mark has gone the 3-key route, he can get back to the 2-key set-up by having the glovebox re-keyed to use the door/ignition key.

Keeping in mind of how things were in those days, I would say again that the trunk key and not the ignition key be the one for the glove box! The reason being, back in the days of parking lots where you had to leave a key for your car, you could just leave the ignition key only, and the attendant would be able to unlock and start your car, and you'd have the ability to be able to take the trunk key with you and be able to keep any valuables that you may have locked in the trunk or the glove box.
Obviously you're not going to leave a 1959 car in that kind of a parking lot today, but for originality's sake, I'm positive it was that way, it had to have been!
