Re: What is it?

Matthew, don't give up. Thinking outside the box is good; now think outside an even larger, and "boxier" shaped box than you've seen before is what should solve this mystery. If you've seen many photos of 1959 Plymouths in print, you have likely seen this car and upon close examination it ...

Re: What is it?

When I sent the picture to Dan it was nearly crystal clear. Perhaps a few pixels or electrons got confused and it appears a bit too blurry in this initial scan. Be patient, that kind of picture has a way of becoming clearer with time. It is something I've never seen before but is likely of interest ...

Re: Cassic Cars Furys, of the fifties

Dick, Congratulations again on getting more magazine coverage, you must be setting some kind of a record for Hemmings. Got my copy in the mail Saturday and will buy a couple off the newsstand too. Now, will we see Charleen in a forthcoming issue? And why no burnout pictures? Or even capture the soun...

Re: Carlisle 2015 Roll Call

Dan, "Thinking about going" is the best I can say right now. Only 400 miles away so that's not an excuse considering how far others are travelling. I know some folks from my area going who are not into '59's but maybe I can send a greeting via them in case I don't show. Thanks for putting ...

Hello, Your info on "5311" rang a bell. http://www.sportscardigest.com/wp-content/uploads/S276_Plymouth_1959_Sport-Fury_Convertible_M293105311_900.jpg Please tell us more about how that came about, was it your car back then? The body type code isn't familiar, though. A few of us have simil...

Re: Torque Converter

I don't know if this will help you but the 318 converter is a smaller diameter. Forgot the exact figures but the 361 unit is about 12-1/2" dia. and the 318 closer to 11-3/4" or so. Both transmissions fit either converter. Shouldn't be any problems with the starter fit. When you have the co...

Re: A couple of questions ...

Here's some info about the Evansville, Indiana plant. I believe it still stands - using Google Maps (or any satellite mapping) you will see a very large building at the southeast corner of Maxwell Ave. and Stringtown Road which themselves are located north of route 62 and west of route 41 as you beg...

Re: 125K at Auction.

That's the one we talked about earlier this year, was at Carlisle in 2007, etc. Matthey, I gave you the VIN quite some time ago I think. Will have to look it up again, it was shown in the original auction listing, and is the highest numbered SF that has turned up, M293 106XXX. Thanks to whoever foun...

Re: Black 59 SF HT for sale in California

That clue about the added Sport Fury emblem leads me to believe this is the car once owned and restored by George Dalinis of Illinois, a previous advisor for 1959 Plymouths in the Plymouth Owners Club (POC.) He was the advisor prior to Bob Hinds, whose own car recently changed hands. This car was pi...

Re: 1959 Sport Fury Hardtop - new member

Art, congratulations on your new car, and welcome to this website. Did Bob Hinds give you the full history of this car? I assume he did as he served as the advisor for 1959 for the POC for several years, and I corresponded with him a couple times then, shortly after he had finished restoring the car...

Re: Red Sport Fury HT for sale in Minnesota

Real early car here, note the "120" serial number from the Lynch Road plant. Probably the lowest number from Detroit for Matthew's data sheets. Probably September 1958 build date, or it could even be August.

Thanks for keeping an eye out for these things, John.

Re: Happy Anniversary!

Dan, I want to ad my thanks and congratulations on this anniversary, and as I've said before I find it amazing that so many of these cars still exist, along with all the fine folks who care about them. And a shout out and thanks to Roger Howard who directed me to this website ten years ago after I f...

Re: Sport Fury Convertible

If you are looking for an absolutely factory original interior condition there are also good reference pictures in the Showcase section of this website, some cars still sport their original interiors. Some are modified per their owners desires, though. As Dick mentioned, there is carpeting on the ba...

Re: Sport Fury Convertible

Dick, there was a mention of 10 cars in that Cars and Parts magazine article of the white convert from New Jersey (at that time) but I suggest that was pure speculation. Especially as that article gives the serial no. as in the 106XXX range. I've had literally dozens of people tell me they had or sa...

Re: Sport Fury Convertible

Dual quads are an old topic on this board. No 1959 Plymouths were factory equipped with dual quads, and this car had a single four barrel carb when it was sold at Carlisle. Tom White installed the current setup. But "back in the day" many cars were swapped over to the dual carburetors, eit...
