Tail light housing to body gasket

Post by skyhawk61 »

I need to replace the hardened and cracked tail light housing-to-body gaskets on my 59 Fury. The factory gaskets are gray in color; the "toilet seat-to-trunk" gasket material that Gary Goers sells is the same configuration as the tail light housing gaskets, but is black in color. What are you guys using, assuming that you replaced the originals? Dennis

On my Sport Deck (Toilet Seat) I used a plastic stripping that you can get at an Upholstery shop or sometimes auto parts stores. It is the type of "U" shaped edging people use on door edges to protect against scuffing of the door edge and for the door not to create dings in other peoples sheet metals. Same edging can be used around the brake pods too!

It is a chrome strip but if you scuff it up with a 3M pad you can paint it with Argent paint. If you want that ultimate factory look.

I keep mine the chrome look personally. My choice (or could be I am lazy...) Either way it works!

Hope this helps!

Check Gary's catalog, thought it was W131 at page 45.

Says it for 64 dodge and Chrysler but I think that's the correct stuff

Thanks for all the replies. I hadn't thought about using door edge moldings, re-sprayed argent silver or light gray. Here's a pic of how far I have to go on the Fury's re-do.I appreciate all your ideas. DC
