Starter help

Post by Guyman »

Well., got my SF started the other night., went to start it today and I think the started went kaput!

The starter cylinoid is getting hot and making a "clicking" noise.

Also, the bendix is always engaged. I know on a ford starter, the starter gears go out when you hit the key and mesh with the flexplate to start the car, then retract. But in this case., my starter is already engaged out all the time (just pulled the starter back out)...and does not retract....I am assuming that is not normal and it is suppose to retract back into the starter case?

See picture....

Any help...thanks.

I had same problem with my starter on mine. 6 cylinder. First rebuilt was crap. Just cleaned it. Second rebuild was great. I forget the real names of parts but the main shaft was bad. Sounds great now and cranks fast.

Got my starter rebuilt., the bedix was bad., so far so good., those damn things weigh like 50 lbs and are not easy to put in yourself.
