MYSTERY PART.

Post by Dick Koch »

All'yall, please scratch you brains and see if you recognize this part. Installing the steering column and want to make sure it's not part of that system. Its been glass bead blasted and painted so it's gotta go in this 59 somewhere, but where???????????????

How sure are you that this part came from the Plymouth convertible? On occasion, chrome re-platers and media blasters will mix up their work and add a piece to your pile...more often they lose a piece or two...
JJust asking...did you do all the mediablasting..have any parts left your property for cleaning?
And lastly, maybe this part was loose in the cvt when it arrived at yyour place, and doesnt belong to it at all?
I don't see any "thru-holes" in this piece, so it couldn't be mounted to anything. With mirror-image cut-outs at either end, it looks like something that would have received the ends of two moveable objects, like trunk lid torsion bars, or seat adjusters or similar.

Honestly, Dick, I cannot ever recall seeing that piece in a late fifties Plymouth. Perhaps Roger is right, and it was a mix up of sorts.

Thanks Guys - It probably was in the car when I got it so it got sandblasted and primed like everthing else. I don't ever remember seeing anything like it when I restored Charleen but I'll hang it on a nail "just in case".

It looks like a window regulator track, but not from our cars.

Dick, not on my car either. Looks like a future piece of Garage Art for your work area...

Yea Tom - That's what it looked like to me. My concern was I was installing the rear windows in the Convert and I only had one. Turns out it was not needed. Windows in and working like a charm.

John - it's already hanging on a nail.

Thanks everbody for your input.

I am getting ready for a visit to Dick right now, in a few hours I'll be there 8)
And yes John I do have a mystery part with me again just like you asked me, I will try to hide it in Dick's stash of parts and. I bet it will puzzle him for a few weeks before he figures out it does not belong to his convertible

Hoping to get the tour in the newly built trophy wing while we are there.
