Like Phoenix from the ashes...

Post by Faulkner »

The rumors of 59plymouth.net's untimely demise are greatly exaggerated. My service provider, Inmotion Hosting, had a failure on the server that houses our site. As you read this, you're aware we're back up and operational. If their backups had failed - we'll, I've got my own! But theirs succeeded - and we're back in business. Here's some gory details to amuse you...

We are writing you to let you know of an issue currently affecting your website and email service with us. Your account is on a server that suffered a file-system error that is preventing it from operating it correctly, and consequently your site and email are down. We are in the process of beginning a recovery for this system, but it will take some time to complete.

This server is designed specifically for higher storage capacity, and your account is among some of the larger accounts we service on our shared packages. If your account is less than 10 gigabytes in size you are covered by our terms of service, and we'll have off-server backups that we can bring online. If your account is greater than 10 gigabytes in size, your account is not backed up off-server, and we'll need to wait until the file-system repair is finished.

For those customers for whom off-server backups are available, we will be able to bring backups online sometime after 9am. Other customers with large accounts that exceed our 10gb limit will need to wait until the file-system repair is complete. Due to the size of the accounts involved, this could potentially exceed 8 hours if it requires multiple passes to correct the filesystem issues.

We are incredibly sorry for the downtime you are seeing, and will be updating you again before 9:15am EST with a status update as to the recovery process and if we could bring your site online. You can check http://status.inmotionhosting.com for updates, or contact our support if you have a question not addressed by this email. Please let us know if there is anyway we can assist you in the mean time, we'll be glad to help as we are able.

Best regards,
The InMotion Hosting Team
