Thanks for the good word, Jeremy! I hope you can score the '58, looks like you still have the high bid. The dual-Quad set-up in the background of the pic is a spare for a '58 Fury which I have ratholed away for a future project.---John

Here's a pic of a sport Fury model which a friend custom made for me. If I ever get it done, this is how my car will look.---John

The center doors appear to be specifically for this model, they could be extremely tough to find and you may need to do some metal fabrication to save the ones that you have. It would definitely be worth the work, as there can't even be a handful of these around. ---John

Without looking up and comparing specs, here's my thoughts- The lifters shown are the hydraulic type, the 318 used solid lifters, the exhaust valve on the left appears to have a longer stem than the other which is the correct valve, and both the valve on the left and the intake valve have a single g...

'59 Suburban wagons for parts

I just picked up two '59 Suburbans for parts, the cars are basically complete with no body rot, but the floors in both have severe rust. Let me know if there are any parts needed from these cars. ---John

I use a penetrant called Lube Job that I get through mail order. I've found that it works just as well as the PB blaster, but costs half as much which is important around here, as much of it I go through.---John

If its the pitman arm that you are having difficulty removing, you will need to get a pitman arm puller for this task. The pitman is the arm that is connected to the steering box. These pullers are available from most any tool store, or a snap-on or Mac type tool dealer.---John

I have never done a steering conversion on a '59 other than the stock set-up, you're welcome to look at some I have here if you think you could get some ideas from those. What engine do you have in your car? ---John

I can understand where you are coming from, but the aftermarket pieces are not the same, and unless you have unlimited time to modify them to fit, the best way to go is generally with original parts. The replacement parts are only partial as well, and not the complete assembly. The car these are in ...

One method that works quite well, is to use a small propane torch to lightly heat the surface, and the undercoat will soften or liquefy to where a light scrape with a putty knife will take most off. After all the heavy stuff is removed, mineral spirits or solvent can dissolve the rest. I don't recom...

Hi Jeremy, I will be out here all weekend, after 10 a.M each day. I will only be near the phone between 8 and 10 A.M. both days, so call me then if you need directions. The main yard where I'll be is right next to I-5, and is fairly easy to find. The trunk section is 500.00, including the drops on b...
