Re: Cast iron A-466 to A-727 conversion Forward Look 56 to 61

Sunny today but not warm. Decided I'd better continue this endeavor and not find my human remains on the couch. I found a huge mess of brown shoe polish coating everything and about 1/8 inch deep in transmission pan, and clogged filter screen. Disassembled everything including band servos. Scrapped...

Cast iron A-466 to A-727 conversion Forward Look 56 to 61

Converting A-466 to A-727 push button 62 to 65. I performed this conversion many years ago, and are revisiting it now, helping a friend of ours resurrect a non-moving forward look convertible. after pricing front pumps and torque convertors as well as rebuild kits, We decided to up grade to a still...

Re: Coker Magnum wheels

Yes, they will fit, these are new wheels, not rebuilt old ones. The original road / magnum wheels had a frosted dull chrome star. They do look out of place on some vehicles. Rick

Re: radiator hose replacement

It's better to use new clamps with a new hose, gasket maker or sealant is acceptable and required often. Make sure the weep hole on water pump is not weeping. Pressure test your system and check. Keep up the good work. Rick

Re: Can only go in reverse, stuck brake cable?

The front brakes are directional as they energize going forward. try backing the shoes off a little bit and see if the problem improves. if not, you will be pulling the drums, for inspection and clean up. let us know what you find. Rick

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

Good Job! The 59 A 466 transmissions have two different valve bodys, the better is the one like the 60 or one piece, like you have. I personally would not have had any problem reusing the shift cable again. That being a' Known good part' is definitely a better choice. Good luck in the future, be su...

Good to see the problem is found. Do you know the cause? How long is your shift cable?

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

Wish I was there... My sister said ' I am so used to how things work, I would make a horrible teacher'. What ever that means? 1 Clean the cable adjuster wheel at the transmission, remove the lock bolt and pull the cable out of the transmission housing, making the shift detent go to first gear. 2 If...

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

The cable connection was used from 1956 to 1965. I used a pocket screw driver to unclip the 'Hairpin' on the connector to release the 'Shift Cable'.top two are 1956 powerflite but the connection is the same 'Hairpin spring wire'. last picture is 1962 to 1965 showing virtually the same connection.

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

looks good, just confused with picture #2 I see feet and can't scale if this is debris or what. think the description of the cable release being a 'Hairpin' is pretty good. Do you have a Factory service manual? I have even used the local library to research this type of thing.... Amazing what you c...

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

Don, First try removing the small bolt on the adjusting wheel using 7/16 wrench or socket, on the transmission and pulling the cable shield back, there may be enough room to insert an awl or small screw driver and unclip the spring that hold the cable end. if it releases the end, you can check cabl...

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

I would have to guess that the internal rooster comb inside the transmission is in the neutral position being you could start the engine. I feel the cable some how came has come loose from one end or the other. I just worked on a pushbutton controlled Torqueflite last Thursday and the cable came lo...

Re: Starter Motor Repair

I used this informative link to rebuild a starter for a new project. Great information. My splint was screw in, and essentially the same. when done I found out I rebuilt the wrong starter. I now have a rebuilt 318 starter. Rick

Wow! Dan, Is this in your county? I have the luxury of being by our county air port and see many 'war birds' flying overhead. Enjoy the show. Wish I were there.Post Script The RAF Red Arrows were just here and put on quite a show.

Re: Cam specs???

I wish I would have seen this post earlier... I think you would like the Sealed Power Cam CS 327 the specs are the same as the later 361 and 413 engines. slightly hotter than the 59 spec and better economy and power. sounds great, like the original.
