now that your car has teh new radiator core, do you still need teh overflow tank? Yeah, I do -- unless I want to run lower than I can in my radiator. Antifreeze was streaming from the overflow after I returned from NJ (still using a low pressure cap). Ed Ober has one in Black Beauty -- I'm going to...

Re: Ongoing mechanical travails

...So I slapped it back together, and placed a call to Ed Ober's friend, Bill. When he calls me back I'll arrange to take Faulkner to him to get this laundry list of things done: check brakes all around, rebuild wheel cylinders where necessary including replace rear shoes radiator recore pinion sea...

question about rim color

I have a white 1959 Plymouth Belvedere. Does anyone know for sure the original colour of the rims of this car. Mine are after market rims (black). The spare is a bias tire and has a silver-grey rim. I am in the process of acquiring original rims, and would like to keep the colour original. Thanks g...

Taxi! TAXI!!

This popped up on Craig's list -- although, at the moment I can't find the link. It's being offered for $1750 in Tom's River, NJ. Here's a note I got in reply to my inquiry: Hi there, Thank you for your interest and your offer to advertise on your website. I only have a few pics (see attached) but y...

Check the bolt torque on the intake manifold, Curt. At least, that was the source of my vacuum leak (and, poor running) problems.

Dan - Glad to hear you are on your way to recovery and have stopped leaking so much. A little tip, if you are talking about the front universal joint rubber sleeve, GUNK IT, it's amazing stuff. When I first got my Red 59 the sleeve had a 1" long split in it, I stuck my grease gun nozzle in it,...

Leaks 'R Us

OK, the bad news is, the radiator shop hasn't yet taken delivery on the replacement core for Faulkner's radiator. Tuesday, perhaps. The good news is: Bill has -- permatexed the manifold bolt leaks replaced the power steering seal, which was leaking snugged up the transmission pan, which was leaking ...

I'm pretty sure there's a chrome upper rear window garnish, Roger -- because I recall what a bad fit the upholsterer did. But someone else will have to weigh in, or I'll have to wait for Faulkner to come home to know for sure. My original panels are gone; the upholsterer made some decent replacement...

I agree, its a thankless job if you dont know how to do it, and its also my understanding that on Plymouths you have to remove the rear window glass to change the headliner....... Bob Huh? I think the panels are tucked under the rear trim. No? Dunno! Faulkner ain't here for me to run take a look at!

So how is that gonna work...do you plan to glue the vinyl to the existing hardboard? If you are abandoning the panelboard, be prepared for a massive test of your patience..trying to install headliner so that it looks good is better left to professionals, IMO! If I needed the job done, I'd get the r...

headliner time

I hope to get Faulkner back from Bill in a week or so -- then, I'm going to work on getting the headliner fixed.
