Re: Can only go in reverse, stuck brake cable?

Steve, on '59's the parking brake operates with a drum on the tailstock of the transmission. If your rear wheels are spinning, the parking brake is *NOT* implicated. It's not uncommon for wheels on Forward Look MoPars to turn in one direction, but lock up in the other. You've got front brake issues ...

Re: Gas Tank Replacement

Gary, I bought my gas tank at Carlisle from Van's Auto - give them a call, they should have what you need. In addition to the tank, you'll want the replaceable rubber grommet that sits in the well where the gas filler pipe goes - they have these as well (it may come with it). Assuming your fuel leve...

Some ruminations about the '59 Sport Fury from Art

Art.jpg In the fight for sales supremacy back in the late 50's, the Big Three (Ford, GM, and Chrysler) auto companies were running operations in a lean, mean and cagey fashion looking to out-do the competition. The automakers produced chiseled, low-profile cars that were tastefully decorated with a...

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

Well, it's been 17 years since I followed these instructions - but, at the time, they worked for me. My memory has faded, but perhaps this will make sense to you with the pan off: From: Dave Grove Grove Automotive <groveautomotive@ka.net> Sent: Saturday, May 17, 2003 1:08 PM To: Dan Morton <morton@R...

Re: Apologies for Forum issues

It should be transparent to you - the domain name 59plymouth.net will move along with it - but it's a very painful maneuver for me. Well, it wasn't too painful after all! My service provider recognized the issue, moved the site to another server, and the domain name along with it. The new server ad...

Re: Power steering

I haven't had much luck with steering pumps! Rock Auto has a deal through Lares (https://www.larescorp.com/product-categories/power-steering-pumps/), but when I sent them my pump, they quoted me an astronomical price for a rebuild because it needed more than just seals and gaskets. I went with a guy...

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

And for what it's worth, here's how I adjusted the cable so that the transmission was in neutral, with the neutral button pushed:

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

As I recall, there's a lip at the bottom of the dash. You might try trolling along the lip with a strong magnet - there's a chance you could pick it up.

Re: Cannot get tranny out of neutral

I've never had to touch my push buttons (except to pull the reverse button out  ), but I have had to adjust the cable, which I did at the transmission with the pan removed. The reason I did so, was because I replaced the rubber grommet at the trans, and I had to remove the cable. So here's the...

Your pics did not post. Please email them to crownking62@yahoo.com. Thanks a million. Better yet, Mark - if you mail them to me, I can get them posted here in the Forum for all to see. Sorry for the inconvenience. BTW, there's a chance the problem is at the transmission end of things - a problem I ...

Dan; I don't know if my pic attachment went through when I attach I get "HTTP ERROR" ? Mark Mark, (*sigh*...) Yeah, that's the problem with my service provider that I mentioned in "Announcements". I'm still working on it. Don, John Quinn has suggested I alert Rick Clapham (another member of this bo...
